Kāhui Ako Leader
ginab@sanctamariaprimary.school.nz
I have been in education for thirty-five years, fourteen of these years as a Principal, and am still passionate about teaching and learning. I have a deep desire to set the conditions that nurture students and teachers into being the best they can be. I derive great satisfaction from nourishing and leading the Special Character of our community of schools and put Christ at the centre of all we do.
As a leader I lead by example and believe that leadership is a service. Servant leadership as modelled by Jesus Christ is at the heart of my leadership style. I am responsive to those around me and believe it is important to be present to teachers, students and families in order to build relational trust.
Relationships have always been a priority and I believe if there is no relationship then very little can be achieved. Recognition and affirmation for work well done, as well as regular mutual evaluation to ensure that the integrity of the relationship is being honoured, has been an extremely effective way of keeping others motivated and enthusiastic.
It is essential for us to have the ability to understand the needs of students and to respond to them with warmth and care, showing sensitivity to different cultural backgrounds. I am constantly reflecting on what we can do differently to better support students, teachers and families. I recognise the importance of continuous learning and keep up to date with innovative practice.
I have a keen interest in the power of rich collaboration and opportunities for learning that this presents and therefore, I enjoy working with others and believe that more heads are better that one. Fostering teacher collective efficacy is a keen interest, as I believe that together we can make a difference to student achievement.
I am committed to leading this strong and vibrant South East Christian Kāhui Ako further on its journey, and am confident that the openness and willingness of our learning community will work to make a difference to student learning.
